On the 31st of January 2026, the FPHC Undergraduate Conference, organised by two of our current Responders Dr Elizabeth Gay and Jack Green, took place at the Trent Building at the University of Nottingham campus!
Overall, we had a great day with interesting talks from Dr Jake Turner (Consultant Anaesthetist), Dr James Nayyar (Consultant Anaesthetist), Thomas Hammond (HART Paramedic) and Camella Main (Lead Midwife for EMAS and LAS).
We followed these talks by three activities in the afternoon. We had a Pre-Hospital Care Skills Carousel which included emergency airway management, wound packing with haemostatic gauze! As well as a major trauma simulation as well as a chest drain tutorial from Dr Midgley (Major Trauma Fellow). With finally a talk from Dr Tim Baker (EMICS Doctor and GP) on Medicine in Extreme Environments which included details about his time working on Mount Everest!
We are very thankful to all of our speakers and responders who supported us to make this event happen! We were delighted to see attendees from a range of backgrounds including Medical Students, Paramedic Science Students and Ambulance Technicians!
We may hold another event of this nature next year so if you are interested please keep an eye on our social media channels!
